About The Games

How the Games Work

Please note the change in rules for the South West Games 2010:

-Participants can be of any age, or any sporting/gaming ability, and come from anywhere.

-Competitors from different Shires and regions may take part as composite teams, and will be eligible for medals.

-However, only individual competitors and teams from each of the 17 SW Local Government Shires will be eligible to win the Trophies and Shields. Therefore for the best chance of winning the South West Games Shields or Trophies, teams should consist of players from the same Shire.

-The South West Games 2010 will also be open to competitors from outside the SW Regions.

In the Past

Each Game involves many different sports, which can include teams or individuals representing their Shire. For a sport to be conducted in the Games, there must be at least 5 nominations representing at least three (3) Shires.

The 2007 South West Games will incorporate all previous aims and objectives by providing three (3) days of celebration sport, an opportunity for involvement for sports enthusiasts, both players and spectators.

The first day is dedicated to junior sporting competitions, thereby encouraging the participation of a greater number of young people.

The South West Games are specifically designed as an Inter-Shire sports competition, appropriate only to the Shires within the South West and Peel.

The Shire Team for which a person is eligible to compete for is determined by his/her ordinary place of residence on or before March 1, 2007.

Each competitor represents their respective Shire and must be a resident of that Shire, despite the fact that they may be playing all their regular sport in a neighbouring area.

The Management Committee will receive any special requests in writing contrary to this rule and will make a determination at its own discretion. The Management Committee decision is final and no further correspondence will be entered into.

Each sport will be conducted according to its own recognised standards and rules, as laid down and accredited by its international, national and/or state regulatory body, as applicable. Every event will therefore be an "official" event.

The Management Committee, based on the ability of each sport to form a reasonable competition, will determine the number and type of sports ultimately to be included in the Bunbury Games. In this respect every Shire is not expected to be able to field a team for every sport.
